Today is World Read Aloud Day, an event sponsored by LitWorld.org. LitWorld is a fantastic organization you all should know about, if you don’t already.LitWorld poses the question, “Nearly 1 billion people entered the 21st century unable to read a book or sign their name. What would you miss most if you could not read or write? Imagine your world without words.”
I cannot imagine any point in my life without books, without words, without writing. It’s in my blood. Watching my son “read” his books and reading aloud to him each night while he sits on my lap makes my heart swell with joy. If I could hand out literacy like candy, I’d do it. Doing my little part, we’ll be reading aloud tonight in my house as part of WRAD. If you’d like to participate, go here to tell LitWorld about it. Check out their Times Square Kick-Off to WRAD.
From their About Us: LitWorld joins together with teachers, parents, community members, and children to support the development of sustainable literacy practices across the world. The organization was founded in 2007 and has been doing incredible literacy work ever since.
Though today is World Read Aloud Day, they have several other notable projects. The 7 Strengths Book Project is the one that struck a chord with me.
There’s still plenty of time left in the day to participate in World Read Aloud Day, so do it! Then go here and tell LitWorld all about (you can share pictures, video, or links, too).
