Children’s Book Swap on thredUP

image property of threadUPthredUP is a site where parents can send/receive boxes of gently used children’s clothing. They have a great military program and live customer service chat, which I love in any website.

This summer thredUP has launched a book swap program. Parents can send in boxes of their gently used books in exchange for coupon codes to get books from BookSwim (the Netflix of books), eBookFling (lets you swap ebooks for Kindle and Nook), and Chronicle Books (my favorite). ThredUP is hoping to reach 100,000 books swapped by August 1st.

I signed up for thredUP through the military program a while back, but haven’t used it for swapping clothes yet. The clothes are shipped in flat rate USPS boxes so a box is $5 +$10.95 Shipping. I thought that seemed a bit high for a box of random used clothes and would probably cost me less to go to local consignment and pick exactly what we want/need.

From now until June 14th: “When your book box is picked and reviewed, you’ll receive a $5 thredUP swapping credit, $25 credit towards BookSwim book rentals and 30% off an order at Chronicle Books with free shipping.”

From June 15th (official launch) to August 1st: “…you’ll receive a $25 credit towards BookSwim book rentals and 30% off a purchase at Chronicle Books with free shipping. For each additional book box up-cycled throughout the Summer Book Swap, you’ll receive 5 credits towards eBookFling to borrow eBooks through the Kindle and Nook 14-day lending feature.”

I haven’t decided whether or not I want to try this, so if any of you do, please drop me a line and let me know what you think. It’s an interesting concept, but I’m not sure whether I think the partner deals are worth the time. If I had a Kindle, I’d probably jump on it because the eBookFling deal sounds great.
