Oswego Bookmobile — So Proud of my Hometown

The Oswego Bookmobile

Oswego actually isn’t my hometown. Martville, NY is. It’s the nearest city to where I grew up though, and it is home to my alma mater, SUNY Oswego and my favorite bookstore in the whole country, River’s End Bookstore.

The Oswego Bookmobile is a project I first heard about from Facebook. I moved away from the area in 2008 and currently we’re stationed at Ft Benning, GA. The bookmobile delivers free books to 12 sites in Oswego city and town, as well as neighboring town of Scriba. The purpose is to get books into kids’ hands during the 8 weeks of summer vacation. The bookmobile makes deliveries once a week and also hosts read alouds and literacy activities.

I’m posting because the bookmobile is actively seeking volunteers, book donations, and monetary donations to keep the program rolling. They collect donations all year. Donations are tax deductible. You can donate via paypal or, if you’re in Oswego, donate at River’s End or the YMCA. You can join their Facebook Group for updates and more information.

I would be very proud if some of my readers reached out to help support this project. If know of other projects like this in your town, please post about them in the comments.

If you’ve never heard of Oswego, NY, check this out. It’s a beautiful area for outdoor adventures, art and music, and great food. Of course, Harborfest starts in just a few days.
