Today is Jumpstart’s Read for the Record. You can go here to sign the pledge saying:
I pledge to read Llama Llama Red Pajama by Anna Dewdney with children in my life on October 6, 2011. By sitting down to read, I’ll be joining more than 2 MILLION people in calling for an end to America’s early education achievement gap. Together, we’ll stand up to demand that all children receive the quality early education they deserve.
Llama Llama Red Pajama is this year’s book. New this year is the option to read the book online for free (in English or En Espanol) thanks to We Give Books. We Give Books is a Pearson Foundation and Penguin endeavor that gives free access to children’s books online. Completely free children’s books that are appropriate for ages 10 and under. When you read books online at We Give Books, you are also helping a literacy charity give books.
Tune into The Today Show this morning to see their participation. The first time I posted about Read for the Record, they were trying to break their record. This year they estimate more than 2 million participants!
