Reading My Eyes Out

In just a couple of weeks, I’ve made it to the ninth book in the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich. Because I’ve been reading them so quickly and there are so many, I’m going to stick to some very short reviews and will be posting them all in the coming week. I’ll mix in a review of Jesus Land and will be starting to read other books outside the series soon, so I can keep an even mix of reviews here. I enjoy so many different genres of books and I want Reading is Sexy to reflect that.

My son turns 8 months old tomorrow. He is rolling all over the place and has mastered the art of steering his walker. My reading time has been reduced, but I get to have fun with this little guy all day, so I’m not complaining.

Speed Reading Update 1

I haven’t been working every day on the program like I should, but have been reading as much as possible. I just finished Chapter 3 in Breakthrough Rapid Reading. speed reading. I’ve often thought about buying a book or program to try out and see if it works. I finally decided to buy Breakthrough Rapid Reading.

I’ve been reading using my finger as a pacer. I had heard a few times that this alone will help improve a person reading speed and eliminate or reduce regressions (which I always did a LOT). It really does. Using your fingertip to scroll along beneath the line your reading is definitely worth getting used to doing.

Since I started this, I’ve finished a novella, One for the Money and Two for the Dough, both by Janet Evanovich, and Jesus Land by Julia Scheers. Not bad for two weeks of reading. I’ve got quite a few books lined up and, of course, reviews of the ones I’ve read will be up soon.

Speed Reading II

I posted a while back about my curiosity surrounding speed reading. I’ve often thought about buying a book or program to try out and see if it works. I finally decided to buy Breakthrough Rapid Reading.

The idea that you can teach yourself to read more efficiently makes perfect sense. Tripling your reading time while improving comprehension — that, I’m not too sure about. I’ve read the introduction to the book, which sounds so much like a sales pitch that I was irritated by reading it. It’s like Peter Kump was really trying to convince me that reading this book and doing the exercise really is worth my time.

So this week, time permitting, I’ll be reading this book and doing the exercises each day. I’ll post from time to time to let you know how I’m progressing and what I think as I go along. I’m sure I’ll at least improve my attentiveness toward reading (as much as a brain-scattered new mom can, anyway).

Glyde Update

I received my book from Glyde yesterday. It arrived much faster than the 18th, which was the estimated date. Once my shipment arrived, Glyde sent me an email asking me confirm the seller’s description of the condition of the book. I thought it was really cool that if you get something that is not in the stated condition, you can complain through Glyde and not just be left with someone that isn’t really what you wanted. If everything’s fine, as mine was, you select the box next to “As Described,” and the seller is then paid. If there’s a problem, Glyde will help fix it. I’ve been burned by both eBay and Amazon sellers before, so I really like the way this system is set up.

Just wanted to give you all that little update. I hope you’re having a great Thursday and thank you for reading!
